Today Taka Rate App Features

The app exists to answer one question quickly, wherever you are: what is my money worth in taka today, and what will actually reach my family?

1. Live rates for 15 currencies

Bank rates for the currencies expatriate Bangladeshis actually earn in — Saudi riyal, UAE dirham, Kuwaiti dinar, Qatari riyal, Omani rial, Bahraini dinar, Malaysian ringgit, Singapore dollar, US dollar, British pound, euro, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Japanese yen and Indian rupee.

Rates shown are the TT Clean rate that applies to incoming remittance — not the mid-market rate that converter sites display and no bank actually offers.

2. Remittance calculator with the incentive built in

Enter what you are sending and the calculator shows the amount that will be credited, including the 2.5% government incentive. At a rate of BDT 123, that makes the effective rate BDT 126.07 — and that is the figure worth comparing between services.

3. Compare across banks

Bank-to-bank differences are usually between BDT 0.50 and 2.00. That sounds small until you are sending USD 5,000, where it can be BDT 10,000. The app lists rates side by side so the comparison takes seconds.

4. Rate alerts

Set a threshold and get a notification when a currency reaches it. This is genuinely useful if you earn in a floating currency — the pound, euro, dollar, Canadian dollar or ringgit. If you are in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain or the UAE, the currency is pegged to the dollar and barely moves, so alerts will rarely fire. That is expected, not a fault.

5. Offline access

The last downloaded rates stay available without a connection, with a clear timestamp so you know how old they are. Useful on a flight, in a labour camp with patchy signal, or while roaming.

An honest caveat: an offline rate is a cached rate. Before an actual transfer, reconnect and refresh. See the offline support guide.

6. Bangla and English

The whole app works in both languages, switchable at any time.

7. What the app does not do

Worth being explicit, because some apps in this category blur the line:

  • It does not transfer money. It is an information tool.
  • It never asks for bank credentials, card numbers, PINs or OTPs. Nothing in the app needs them.
  • It does not give financial advice. Rates and rules are shown so you can decide for yourself.
  • Rates are indicative — confirm with your bank before transacting.

Frequently asked questions

Is the app free?

Yes.

How often do rates update?

Rates refresh in line with bank publication, which is typically once each morning with intraday revisions when markets are volatile.

Does it work without internet?

Cached rates remain viewable offline with a timestamp. Live updates need a connection.

Will it tell me the best time to send?

It shows the current rate and can alert you at a threshold you choose. It does not predict rates, and you should be sceptical of any app that claims to.
