Currency Exchange Rate Converter
A converter answers one question: how much taka will this amount become? The catch is that different converters give different answers for the same amount on the same day — and the reason matters if you are sending money home.
1. Why converters disagree
Most online converters, including Google's, show the mid-market rate — the midpoint between what banks buy and sell at. It is the "true" rate in a technical sense, but nobody actually gives you that rate.
| Rate you see | Where it comes from | Can you get it? |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-market rate | Google, XE, most converter sites | No — it is a reference point |
| TT Clean | Your bank, for incoming remittance | Yes — this is your rate |
| BC Selling | Your bank, when it sells you currency | Only when buying foreign currency |
| Open market | Money changers, physical cash | For cash notes inside Bangladesh only |
If you compare a bank's offer against Google's rate and conclude the bank is cheating you, you are comparing two different things. The gap is the bank's margin, and every bank in the world has one. The full explanation is in our guide to how bank dollar rates are set.
2. Converting properly for remittance
To work out what will actually land in the recipient's account:
- Start with the TT Clean rate from the receiving bank — not the mid-market rate.
- Multiply by the amount you are sending.
- Add 2.5% for the government incentive, if you are using a legal channel.
- Subtract the sending service's fee, which is charged separately.
3. A worked example
| Step | Amount |
|---|---|
| You send | USD 1,000 |
| At TT Clean of BDT 123 | BDT 123,000 |
| Government incentive 2.5% | + BDT 3,075 |
| Credited to the account | BDT 126,075 |
| Effective rate | BDT 126.07 per dollar |
That effective rate is the number to compare between services — not the headline rate.

5. How often rates update
Most banks publish once each morning and hold that rate for the day, revising intraday only in volatile markets. So checking a converter every hour rarely tells you anything new — particularly for dollar-pegged currencies like the Saudi riyal and UAE dirham, where the rate barely moves at all.
6. Practical cautions
- Check which rate a converter is showing. If it does not say, assume mid-market.
- Fees are not in the rate. Ask for them separately.
- Rounding differs. Small discrepancies between tools are usually just rounding.
- Rates here are indicative. Confirm with your bank before a large transfer.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Google's rate higher than my bank's?
Google shows the mid-market rate, which no bank offers to customers. Your bank's TT Clean rate includes its margin.
Which rate should I use to plan?
TT Clean plus 2.5%. That is the closest to what actually arrives.
Do all currencies get the incentive?
Yes, on any remittance through a legal channel, whatever the sending currency.
How accurate are the rates on this site?
They are indicative and updated regularly, but always confirm the day's rate with your bank before transacting.
