2.5% Remittance Incentive Calculator
The government adds 2.5% to remittance that arrives through a legal banking channel. This page shows what that is worth in taka, and the conditions attached.
1. The calculation
The arithmetic is simple: multiply the amount by the bank's TT Clean rate, then add 2.5%.
| You send | At BDT 123 | 2.5% incentive | Total credited | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USD 200 | 24,600 | 615 | 25,215 | 126.07 |
| USD 500 | 61,500 | 1,537 | 63,037 | 126.07 |
| USD 1,000 | 123,000 | 3,075 | 126,075 | 126.07 |
| USD 2,000 | 246,000 | 6,150 | 252,150 | 126.07 |
| USD 3,000 | 369,000 | 9,225 | 378,225 | 126.07 |
| USD 5,000 | 615,000 | 15,375 | 630,375 | 126.07 |
Note that the effective rate is the same whatever the amount — the incentive is a flat percentage. What changes with size is the absolute taka gained.
2. What it is worth over a year
Someone sending USD 1,000 a month receives roughly BDT 36,900 a year in incentive alone. That is the amount forfeited by anyone using an informal channel.
3. Who qualifies
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Channel | A bank or an authorised exchange house |
| Destination | Bank account or approved mobile financial service |
| Application | None — the bank adds it automatically |
| Documentation | Generally none up to BDT 500,000; above that the bank may ask for proof of income |
| Sending currency | Any — the incentive applies regardless |
4. The rate history
| From | Rate |
|---|---|
| 2019 | 2% |
| January 2022 | 2.5% |
| FY2026-27 budget (11 June 2026) | 2.5% maintained |
On the 5% rumour: an increase to 5% was proposed but not announced. The confirmed rate is 2.5%. Treat anyone quoting 5% with caution, particularly if they are using it to justify a charge.
5. Checking you received it
Most banks credit the incentive together with the principal; some post it separately a few days later. Check your statement. If it has not appeared after a week, contact the receiving bank with the transaction reference.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to apply?
No. It is added automatically to qualifying transfers.
Is there a cap?
Some providers describe an annual ceiling per recipient. Reporting is inconsistent on this point, so if you send large sums regularly, confirm the current position with your own bank rather than relying on any website.
Does it apply to mobile wallets?
Yes, where the service is an approved mobile financial service and the money arrived legally. Rules vary by provider.
What if I send more than BDT 500,000?
Not a problem — the bank may simply ask about the source of income. Employment papers or salary evidence are usually enough.
